Since 2005, the History, Philosophy and Newspaper Library at the University of Illinois has worked to develop unique digital newspaper content. Considered to be both preservation and access initiatives, digital conversion and markup is outsourced to carefully chosen vendors. Duplicate preservation files are stored in geographically distant storage locations, and access files are served locally from University Library servers. The following collections are available:

  • Illinois Newspapers

    The Illinois Newspapers contains digital facsimiles of historic Illinois newspapers.

  • Farm, Field and Fireside

    The Farm, Field and Fireside collection contains digital facsimiles of historic agricultural newspapers published in the United States.

  • American Popular Entertainment

    The American Popular Entertainment collection contains digital facsimiles of historic newspapers and trade journals published for the entertainment industry in the US between 1853 and 1929.

  • Collegiate Chronicle

    The Collegiate Chronicle is a prototype student newspaper repository aggregating newspapers from colleges and universities across the USA.

  • Black Newspapers

    The Black Newspapers collection contains digital facsimiles of historic Black-and African-American-led newspapers, including student newspapers, published in the 20th century.
